JORDANVILLE, NY: September 6, 2012
Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York Leads the Funeral and Burial of Archimandrite Florus (Vanko)

On Wednesday, September 5, 2012, on the feast day of the Apodosis of the Dormition of the Most-Holy Mother of God, His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York arrived in Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY, to lead the funeral and burial services for the late Archimandrite Florus (Vanko). His Eminence was joined by His Grace Bishop Peter of Cleveland, Administrator of the Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America, His Grace Bishop George of Mayfield, Vicar of the Eastern American Diocese, and host of clergymen, gathered by the call of their hearts. The funeral was performed in accordance with the monastic rite. After the singing of “With the saints give rest,” Protodeacon Victor Lochmatow delivered a heartfelt eulogy, having known the late monk well for over fifty years. Archimandrite Florus had played a direct role in the spiritual growth of Fr Victor, who noted the greatest virtues of the reposed monk: his love for divine services, which was a priority, humility, hard work and the absence of frivolity. Before the prayer of absolution was read, His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, on behalf of the episcopacy and fullness of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, expressed empathy for the sorrow of the brotherhood, which had lost the last monk of the “Ladomirovo school.”

Archimandrite Florus was buried in the monastic cemetery behind the altar of the monastery cathedral.
