News on the celebration of the feast day of St John of Shanghai and San Fransisco the Miracle-worker

The annual feast of Saint John of Shanghai and San Francisco the Wonderworker scheduled for Saturday July 4, 2020, will be celebrated at Holy Virgin Cathedral in San Francisco where the Saint’s honorable and miraculous relics repose.

However, based on the current information available, divine services will not be open to the public in compliance with the Public Health Directive of the San Francisco City and County Department of Public Health dated June 13, 2020.

In general, Holy Virgin Cathedral has been closed to the public, even for private worship, as of Great Lent of this year.

Since it is not clear if religious gatherings in houses of worship within the City of San Francisco will be permitted in time for the observance of Saint John’s Day, His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America requests that the faithful do not make plans for a pilgrimage to Holy Virgin Cathedral on or around July 4, 2020.

Live streaming of the feast of Saint John of Shanghai and San Francisco may be observed here.

You may submit lists of names for commemoration on St. John’s Day and any other days here.

Also, you may buy candles that will be placed and lit in Holy Virgin Cathedral during divine services on the feast of Saint John or any other day here. Please, donate in increments of $11.00, for example $44.00, $33.00, $22.00, $11.00, $5.50, $2.75, $1.40.

If there are any changes is in the “Public Health Directive” that favor the opening of houses of worship in the City of San Francisco between now and Saint John’s Day, a new announcement will be published reflecting those changes in the schedule and private worship at Holy Virgin Cathedral on the Western American Diocese and Holy Virgin Cathedral’s websites.
