A regular session of the Synod of Bishops was held

On Tuesday, July 3, 2018, a regular session of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia was held, chaired by His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of ROCOR. Participating in this session were: His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Berlin and Germany, Vice President; His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America, Secretary; His Eminence Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada; His Eminence Archbishop Peter of Chicago and Mid-America; His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, Deputy Secretary, and His Grace Bishop Irenei, Secretary of Inter-Orthodox Relations.

They prayerfully commemorated the following recently-reposed clerics of the Russian Church Abroad: Protopresbyter Valery Lukianov; Protopriest Simeon Kichakov and Hegumen Gabriel (Kvasnikov). The Synod then began its work, discussing the forthcoming great consecration of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God in London, England, which will host the next regular meeting of the Synod. At the same time, September 21, a monument to the 100th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Royal Passion-Bearers on the cathedral grounds will be unveiled.

Bishop Irenei then reported on the work of the Inter-Orthodox Office, who proposed that a committee on strengthening Church unity be reestablished. In addition to Bishop Irenei, Protopriest Serafim Gan, Chancellor of the Synod of Bishops, is appointed to the committee.

The Synod of Bishops, hearing a report from the Spiritual Court of the German Diocese on the matter of former Protopriest Alexander Zaitsev, confirmed with sorrow his defrockment.

The archpastors then discussed candidacy for the episcopate and heard a series of requests for church awards from ruling bishops for their clergymen and laity.
