GERMAN DIOCESE: July 31, 2013
Munich's Cathedral of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia hosts "Melodies of Georgia"

On Sunday, July 28, 2013, the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia, Munich's Cathedral of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia hosted a benefit concert titled "Melodies of Georgia." Performing for the cathedral's parishioners was the Georgian choir called "Iberishi."

Directed by Davit Kuntsurashvili, the singers performed liturgical music composed by the Primate of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Katolikos-Patriarch Ilya II, as well as ancient music.

The singers all wore traditional Georgian garb, and exhibited the wealth of Georgian song, especially the a capella music of various regions in Georgia: Guria, Kakhetia, Samegrelo, and traced the historical development of the songs of Iberia. The audience was led on a "musical journey" throughout Georgian regions as well as various historical epochs in music.
