The Caretaker of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God is Elevated to the Rank of Protodeacon

On Sunday, December 18, 2011, the feast day of St Savva the Sanctified, His Grace Bishop Jerome of Manhattan of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia celebrated Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Our Lady “of the Sign” in New York along with his clergymen and a large contingent of worshipers. During the minor entrance, in accordance with a decision of the Synod of Bishops, His Grace elevated Deacon Nicholas Olhovsky, whose duty it is to accompany the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God, to the rank of Protodeacon.

After the service, Protodeacon Nicholas took the main holy icon of the Russian Church Abroad to Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY. From there, the Kursk-Root Icon will be taken to Holy Protection Memorial Church in Ottawa, Canada, where the annual St Herman’s Youth Conference will begin on December 24.
