His Holiness Patriarch Kirill Venerates the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God

On October 2, 2011, upon his return from an official visit to the Diocese of Chernovtsy and Bukovino Diocese, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia venerated the miracle-working Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God “of the Sign.” This holy icon arrived in Moscow on the evening of October 2 from Kursk, and was brought to the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Peredelkino. 

From September 19-October 2, 2011, with the blessing of His Holiness as well as His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, the main holy icon of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God “of the Sign,” was brought to Kazakhstan and Russia. The icon traveled in Kazakhstan from September 19-23, after which it was brought to the Kursk-Root Hermitage on September 24-25, and from September 25-October 2, at Znamensky Monastery in the city of Kursk.
