On Friday, February 11, 2011, Hieromonk Irenei of the St Ignatius Brotherhood in San Francisco gave the keynote address at a conference entitled "On the Wood of the Cross: The Patristic Doctrine of Atonement" at Princeton University. Speaking on the topic "Atonement in Orthodox Liturgical Theology and Practice," Fr Irenei, who is a Professor of Patristics and former Head of Theology at Greyfriars, Oxford and Chair of Theology in Leeds, UK, was the first of a distinguished panel of Orthodox speakers that included Protopresbyter George Dragas, Archpriest John Behr, Archpriest John McGuckin, Dr George Parsenios and others. The conference was the first major event of Princeton's recently-formed Florovsky Society, attracting over 180 participants from the USA and abroad. The talks will be published in a collected volume in the coming year.
