A Benefit Concert is Held for Elizabeth Olhovsky

On November 14, 2010, an annual benefit concert was held for St John of Shanghai Parish community in Boston. This year it was devoted to the memory of Elizabeth Olhovsky of blessed memory. The concert was preceded by the parish’s “open house.” Pilgrims, friends and visitors prayed during Sunday’s Divine Liturgy, celebrated by Priest Vadim Pismenny, joined by Hieromonk Roman (Krassovsky), choir director at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY,  and teacher at Holy Trinity Seminary, who has ministered to the nascent community for two years. All were then invited to the parish sisterhood’s trapeza, where everyone had the opportunity to become better acquainted. After the meal, everyone went to the concert hall, which Fr Roman hosted. The concert was divided into three parts: classical, liturgical and Russian folk music.

A choir under the direction of Irina Shachneva sang beautifully. The complex and wide scope of the repertoire and the singers’ professional execution earned the highest accolades from the audience. All donations and revenue generated by the concert are being deposited in the parish’s church building fund. In attendance at the concert were Deacon Nicholas Olhovsky, the widower of Elizabeth, her mother AM Shohoff and other relatives.
